St Michael’s Pre-School - Brantham

St Michael’s Preschool has been running for over 30 years and operates from the Institute building opposite St Michael’s Church in Brantham.  We welcome children from all faiths and ethnic backgrounds and are open Monday to Friday 7.00 – 6.00 pm.  This setting has children from birth to 3 years, after which they tend to progress to Brooklands Young Explorers in preparation for primary school.

We are proud to have been awarded ‘good’ across all areas in our Ofsted Inspection in December 2016, with ‘outstanding’ in the area of personal development.  The Inspector also noted some ‘outstanding’ teaching.

Care for children age 0-2 years

Our large and newly refurbished baby area is equipped with a wide range of play and sensory equipment, it provides a wide variety of resources that promote early learning through play, exploration and discovery.

We employ qualified baby practitioners who are skilled and experienced, able to meet the needs of young babies and we like to continue home routines wherever possible to help the younger members feel safe and secure.

The ‘key person’ scheme which CCC operate across all settings is crucial in the baby room as we feel babies learn to be independent by having someone they can depend on, therefore a secure relationship with the key person is essential.

The key person is responsible for the baby’s routines, nappy changes and other individual needs.

We aim to offer a home from home provision and after continuous risk assessments and if deemed safe to do so may integrate babies with the toddlers if they wish to participate with, for example, siblings, cousins or older friends.

Care for Toddlers

Rising 2’s occupy the remaining half of the main room (the babies have the other half and the room is partitioned), children age 2+ are situated in a separate room with bi-fold doors leading to the outside area.

We have a computer suite, a ‘cosy’ reading area and a huge selection of age and stage related toys and resources. Most of the equipment in the area is at a low storage level so that the children can choose freely when playing or selecting activities.

All children are encouraged to learn through play and children here are encouraged to share, interact and help their peers in activities such as tidying up, role play and story time. The children will also have access to the outside play area which includes an all weather canopy and a vast amount of play equipment.
